“Krabi OK” – A Charming City with Warm-Hearted People
Krabi Province has launched the “Krabi OK” campaign to build all-around confidence and warmly welcome tourists once again. With stunning filming locations from major international movies and the unforgettable charm of a “livable city with lovely people,” Krabi is ready to impress.
Mr. Angkura Siladhewakul, Governor of Krabi, stated that the province’s ongoing development aligns with the policies of Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, currently acting as Prime Minister, as well as with Krabi’s integrated provincial development plan. This plan aims to enhance the quality of life for residents sustainably, preserve natural resources, and promote the local economy.
Krabi spans over 4,700 square kilometers, featuring a diverse landscape of mountains, plains, and more than 150 islands. This rich natural environment makes the province uniquely abundant. Its economy is powered by two main sectors: agriculture and tourism. Agriculture, especially rubber and oil palm, remains a key source of income for local farmers. At the same time, tourism continues to thrive, offering everything from pristine beaches and mountains to waterfalls, adventure activities, cultural heritage sites, accommodations, and delicious local cuisine.
Krabi has truly been blessed with natural beauty and world-renowned destinations. Highlights include the Phi Phi Islands with their crystal-clear waters and white sandy beaches, coral reefs for diving, Maya Bay, and Lanta Island with its peaceful beaches and unique sea gypsy culture. Railay Beach offers world-class rock climbing experiences. Recently, the province gained renewed attention as a filming location for Jurassic World: Rebirth, with sites such as Khlong Rood, Khao Khanap Nam, Huai To Waterfall, and Khao Phanom Bencha National Park. Spots like the ATV Nature Viewpoint have further contributed to Krabi’s rising fame.
Like many tourism-reliant destinations worldwide, Krabi was heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this challenging time also allowed nature to recover. Aside from public health concerns, tourist confidence also depends on safety from natural disasters such as tsunamis and earthquakes. Krabi takes these concerns seriously. Local authorities, private sector representatives, and communities collaborate regularly to develop proactive and responsive measures. One of Krabi’s strengths lies in its diverse yet harmonious population, including Thai-Chinese, Thai Buddhists, Thai Muslims, and sea gypsy communities, all coexisting peacefully.
The province has implemented multiple early warning systems, including signal buoys in the Andaman Sea and the Indian Ocean. These systems are regularly maintained and tested. Tourist sites are also being upgraded, with improved information and environmental conservation efforts in place. Natural attractions operate on seasonal schedules to allow for proper restoration.
“The public, private, and community sectors in Krabi are working together to drive the ‘Krabi OK’ campaign forward. We’ve prepared on all fronts to ensure every visitor enjoys a safe and memorable experience. From quality services and delicious fresh food to stunning and sustainable destinations, we invite you to come and experience the charm of Krabi for yourself,” said the Governor.
